During a recent MDGS board meeting, a woman at the facility we rent brought in some of her Great Lakes depression glass for identification. But this collection was not your typical cups, saucers and plates! She collected beach glass – fragments that have been thrown about in the Great Lakes and beautifully smoothed and polished. Some of these pieces were indeed depression glass! Each one was labeled with the date she found the glass, along with what beach it was at.
While our club’s monthly meetings focus on collecting the tableware of this era, it was interesting to see a different type of collection – Great Lakes depression glass! So the next time you are at the beach, keep your eye out for some pink Dogwood, green Cameo, or yellow Princess among the other sea glass you might find.
